My father was a successful businessman who had been in business for almost 30 years. During the Great Recession, his business suddenly went under. As a result of the business failure, his house went into foreclosure. As a young attorney, I began fighting the bank to save my father’s home — my childhood home. My father was able to finally modify his loan after many years of fighting. Through that experience, which was a “must win” situation, I learned how stressful and demoralizing the foreclosure process can be, and how important it is to stay the course.
